‘The digital transformation is usually seen as a pure effect of technical advances. The lecture takes a different look at the explanatory and underlying dynamics of the development. These lie in the immanent logics of our economy. The lecture first shows this theoretically and analytically for the economic perspective and then points out the connections to current digital business models and digital technologies. The contribution refers to the theories of Polanyi and Marx, but develops its own theoretical approach of the distributive forces.”

Wydział Socjologii UW oraz Digital Economy Lab UW zapraszają na wykład otwarty pt. „Distributive forces – a different approach to understand digital capitalism”, który 23 maja 2023 wygłosi prof. Sabine Pfeiffer z Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Professor Sabine Pfeiffer jest uznaną socjolożką od wielu lat badającą wzajemne oddziaływanie technologii i pracy w przedsiębiorstwach, a także konsekwencje jakie transformacja cyfrowa niesie dla społeczeństwa w ogóle. Swoje badania nad tą tematyką prof. Pfeiffer zawarła w niedawno wydanej książce „Digital Capitalism and Distributive Forces”.

Wykład dotyczyć będzie rozwijanego przez badaczkę autorskiego rozumienia transformacji cyfrowej i cyfrowego kapitalizmu. Choć czerpie ono z teorii Polanyiego i Marksa, to stanowi oryginalne podejście teoretyczne i koncentruje się na pojęciu sił dystrybucyjnych.

Wydarzenie odbędzie się 23 maja w godzinach 16:45-18:15 na Wydziale Socjologii UW przy ul. Karowej 18 (sala 18).

The Faculty of Sociology and the Digital Economy Lab (DELab) would like to invite you to a lecture by Professor Sabine Pfeiffer of the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg „Distributive forces – a different approach to understand digital capitalism”

Professor Sabine Pfeiffer is a renowned sociologist who has extensively researched the relationship between technology and work in business organisations as well as the impact of digital transformation on society as a whole. She has recently summarised her work on the subject in a book entitled ‘Digital Capitalism and Distributive Forces’.

Lecture would be devoted to a theoretical perspective on digital transformation and digital capitalism. The contribution refers to the theories of Polanyi and Marx, but develops its own theoretical approach of the distributive forces.

The event will be held on 23rd of May 16:45-18:15 at the Faculty of Sociology (Karowa 18, room 18).
