Workshop “In the face of Russian aggression: how to protect and develop cultural heritage in Ukraine”
The workshop is a part of „en/counter/points” project that investigates the relationships between official and unofficial sites, practices, processes and discourses of public space, culture and integration to uncover multiple (re)negotiations of belonging in a diverse Europe. Ukraine has numerous sites of national, international and world importance. The topic of Russian aggression that started in March 2014 and became a full-scale invasion in February 2022 made sites and spaces of cultural heritage in Ukraine extremely vulnerable. After 9 months of full-scale aggression experts connected to cultural heritage in Ukraine will discuss first collaborative projects and strategies aimed to resist the aggression and protect cultural heritage in Ukraine – actors that participate in such projects, role played by local communities and governments in preserving material objects, changes in perception of cultural heritage we may already observe in the Ukrainian society. The workshop is planned as a common discussion with an emphasis on expertise of each participant. The goal of the workshop is to systematize and discuss existing initiatives, as well as contemplate about the changes in perception of cultural heritage in Ukrainian society.
