Scientific interests

Political philosophy, especially Hannah Arendt, Paul Ricoeur, and Karl Jaspers. Sociology and ethics of memory, with a particular focus on transitional justice, accountability, guilt, reconciliation, and forgiveness in politics. History of emotion ideas, with a particular emphasis on 17th-century philosophers: René Descartes, Baruch Spinoza, and Thomas Hobbes, as well as the theory of liberal democracy, populism, and emotions in contemporary politics.

Other

Karolina Wigura, from 2016 to 2018, was the co-director of the Polish program “Knowledge Bridges: Poland – Britain – Europe” at St. Antony’s College, University of Oxford. She was a visiting professor at the University of Oxford and the Central European University in Budapest, a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. In the academic year 2021/2022, she is a Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin. She is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) and the Board of the Kultura Liberalna Foundation. Her book “Wina narodów. Przebaczenie jako strategia prowadzenia polityki” (Scholar Publishing House, 2011) received the 2012 Józef Tischner Award and was nominated for the Jerzy Turowicz Award the following year. Her book “Wynalazek nowoczesnego serca. Filozoficzne źródła współczesnego myślenia o emocjach” (Scholar Publishing House, 2019) was nominated for the 2020 Tadeusz Kotarbiński Award.
